Black Country Route
This work relates quite simply to fire. It is a monument to the taken-for-granted force which is the fundamental root of industrial processes.
To melt, to weld, to forge, to cast all require a mastery of fire. I would want this work to embody not only an abstract reference to the physics of heat, but also a respect for the abilities of the men who manipulated that power.
The sculpture is bounded by a diamond shaped frame of various gauge angle irons. Apart from the other significant compositional elements within this frame it would also be packed with a considerable density of small gauge box section, probably crushed in the Claydon fashion, to create optical effects like a shimmering heat haze
