Rude to Stare
Rude to Stare

Disfigured, deformed, and physically different.

The unfortunate child who is handicapped is the object of curiosity for others. Before we learn to feel pity or compassion ……….we just stare.

I remember, like it was yesterday, being yanked away by my mother, along down the High St.,............. dragged away from the poor specimen, unable to support his own weight.

Parked in his chair outside a shop, his steel leg-calipers attached by buckles and leather. His expression seemed both sad and fierce, loud wails and stalactites of saliva were issuing from his mouth.

Was scared, puzzled, curious, and staring.

Yanked again, I hear the firm words…………..”It’s rude to stare!”
